Udayapur Night: Sumo Crash And Tipper Truck Ablaze

Two urgent road events gripped Udayapur overnight

Sumo-bike crash note

A motorcycle rider died after a collision on the Madan Bhandari Lokmarg at Dwarakhola bridge, Chaudandigadhi‑6. Police briefings identify the vehicles as a Sumo (Ko 1 Ja 8799) traveling Itahari–Gaighat and a motorcycle (Pr‑2‑02‑003 P 3708) headed Dhanusha–Dharan. The rider, Binod Lama, about 48, of Dhanushadham‑8, was declared dead at Biratnagar’s Nobel Hospital at 11:30 pm local time. His pillion passenger, Saphal Sada, 45, from the same address, remains under treatment at the same facility. Investigators recorded impact damage consistent with a frontal strike near the bridge approach. Terrain is narrow, lighting sparse, and traffic mixed with freight and local buses, adding risk to any late drive.

Police steps, health

District Police Office Udayapur reports the Sumo driver, Prem Karki of Triyuga‑6, is in custody at Area Police Office Beltar for questioning. A file review will cover speed, lane position, headlight condition, braking marks, and driver fitness. Families have been informed. Officials advise gradual travel plans for dusk and night, reflective layers for riders, and helmet checks with secure chin straps. Bystanders are urged to call emergency lines first, shield the scene, and avoid moving the injured unless fire or flood threatens. Hospitals should be alerted ahead to cut triage delays.

Tipper blaze details

In a separate event at 11:45 pm, a gravel‑hauling tipper (Na 8 Kha 5941) caught fire near Katari‑1, Churiya, on the Siddhicharan Highway while moving from Dudhauli toward Mirchaiya. Police attribute ignition to a wiring short in the forward cabin. Damage is estimated at NPR 1.9 million. No human injury was reported. Fire crews and police contained the blaze by 12:50 am. Fleet owners are reminded to inspect alternators, battery leads, fuse boxes, and aftermarket lamps, and to carry serviced extinguishers. Both cases remain under formal investigation.
